Did not hear you comment on the Country Day win over Brother Rice much other than the exclamation marks after the score…. A couple thoughts and observations: 1. Rice is still the odds on pick to win the D1 state Championship this year…they have a fine team and getting beat is only remarkable because it hasn’t happened that they were beaten by a Michigan team in 12 Years!!! CC came close last year and I believe U of D had a lead on them in the 2002 State Final in the 4th and Rice had a furious come back to win that one….But DCD has to be given some props because that was a heck of a win… How did they pull it off? An off night for Rice? Possibly… But DCD has had coaching shake up after coaching shake up, and that was a big win… I think you have to give credit to the strategy they employed… Bergmann was tough…and they had their usual scorers come through… But what has to be mentioned is the play of Joe Bergin on Jason Alessi…. Alessi is a phenom as an athlete and even though he is going football in college over Lax, he is still maybe the best Lax Player in the state…. (the kid from Holt is outstanding as well) But Bergin played as a Freshman and Sophmore and ran track last year… He has great speed, and he did a marvelous job on Alessi during that game…He had a key goal, but I don’t know if he is a prolific scorer, but that is a weapon to play Alessi so tough… We’ll see if DCD can stay consistent and beat teams like Cranbrook and FHC…But it was a big win, and worthy of some commentary because we may not see a streak of such epic proportion again… Well done Warriors, and nice job by DCD to have a plan and compete with one of the storied programs of all time… no disrespect at all to AJ and the Black and Orange… they deserve the accolades for such an awesome streak….
