Wow! From a fan’s perspective, it was an exciting contest between two teams that played extremely hard. Sorry to wax all emotional, but it is something to behold when two teams sell out with effort like that… Now, mind you, it was not the prettiest exhibition of Lacrosse, but it had a lot of scoring which is exciting, especially to a lot of people just getting exposed to the game.. Lots of youngsters in the crowd, and many who watched their first game to be sure. Detroit will need a bigger venue going forward if they want to play this game inside as it was busting at the seems at Ultimate Soccer. I was not a fan of the Detroit Grey Uniforms… The Red, White and Blue Color Combos they can use always look awesome… From where I sat, the color combo made the numbers hard to make out… Plus, it made Detroit look like Ohio State a bit (which could explain the Wolverines quick start)…I thought the Detroit goalie was really fighting the ball early, and he settled down and helped get Detroit back in the game… He made some very good saves, but let in some softies that hurt.. a better start by him could have been the difference in the game… The other puzzlement was Damien Hicks, he got routed, and thank goodness for Yono, or the Wolverines would have won in a complete blowout… I almost wondered why Detroit’s Coaches waited so long to get him in…I thought Michigan got a lot of calls in the first half, and the refs missed a big offsides by Michigan… The Wolverines were chippy too, with a lot of late stuff after shots they seemed to get away with, especially on Adams and Birney… I give full credit to the Wolverines for battling back, after losing their lead, and getting the win… That face off in OT was huge and Detroit looked like they were going to come up with it but two players for the Titans knocked themselves out of the play and Michigan came up with a HUGE GB… I was impressed with Michigan’s Middies at times, but in reality, the kids from Detroit, dominated by Michigan born players, more than held their own… Like when they played Notre Dame etc… Going forward, Michigan is going to grow by leaps and bounds this season, Credit to their Coach for playing such a demanding schedule, I believe it will serve them well… Detroit has the makings of a solid team, their chemistry and will were evident last night when the game was in the balance early and they dug down and faught back… The Titans have to learn quickly how to close a game out, and not let teams back in when they have a lead, like the Mercer game, and Michigan… Also, hoping Drew Shupak recovers from his injury… the senior from OLSM had a heckuva goal… early indications were that it was a bad sprain or ACL… I hope that is not the case… Paul Biletti was a difference maker for the Titans as well as Birney, Adams, and Maini… I was looking for some production from Masterson, but it will come… Drummond solid as well, and a nice G from Andy Hebden as well… On to Pittsburgh for Detroit, and Good like to Big Blue VS Hopkins… Overall, a Great night of Lax in the Great Lake State!!!!
For a third uniform, UDM should have gone with black combined with red/white/blue lettering along with their black helmets from the NCAA tournament. Basically, their alternate jerseys/shorts should have been based off of their alternate helmet.
Agreed that you can’t go wrong with their red, white, and blue.
I actually really liked the look of the greys. The only problem I had with them was some difficulty seeing the numbering (but that was just as much because of the font as the color).
