Michigan
A couple days after their 8-15 loss to Loyola, Michigan was back in action with The Program training like Navy SEALs (pictured at right). I bet the players wish it had been this week, when it’s in the 60s instead of snowy.
Michigan gets some ink (pixels) in a roundup on AnnArbor.com.
Michigan is selling a “Team One Pack” for the Wolverines’ remaining home games, all of which will take place in Michigan Stadium. It seems pretty overpriced to me, but we’ll see if demand keeps up with pricing.
Detroit
Detroit defenseman Jason McDonald continues getting his write on for Lacrosse Playground.
Detroit LSM Jordan Houtby was named the MAAC defensive player of the week. The honor for the St. Catharines, Ontario native came following his four caused turnover, six ground ball performance against Quinnipiac, in which he also assisted on a goal.
On the women’s side, the Titans are finally in action.
The Detroit women lost to Cal 18-9 over the weekend, but Emily Boissonault picked up her 200th career goal. UDM Coach Laura Maness talks postgame about the Titans’ home opener, a 10-16 loss to St. Bonaventure.
Boissonault also played a big role in the Titans’ first win of the season, a big reason she earned offensive player of the week honors in the NLC.
MCLA
Davenport picked up an easy victory over Northwood University last Friday The Panthers won 23-4.
Aquinas picked up a 14-5 win over LU Belleville last weekend, and beat cross-town rival Calvin College 15-3 on Tuesday.
Grand Valley State went undefeated at the Sailfish Shootout.
Recruiting
Michigan signee Will Perkins scored the game-winning goal for Dallas St. Mark’s against Durham Academy at the Brine King of Spring event.
The Michigan women picked up a commitment from attack Sophie duPhily. She is a 2013 graduate from Kennett (Pa.). You can see highlights on her Lacrosse Recruit page.
Etc.
I’ve been somewhat neglecting my tempo-free pet project (what with hardly having the time for posts on this site), but College Crosse is all over the tempo-free lacrosse scene.
In Inside Lacrosse’s Under Armour Midwest power rankings, Brother Rice comes in No. 3, Country Day is No. 8, and the rest of the teams are Indiana (Culver Academy at No. 1), Ohio, and Illinois-based.
$10 a game is overpriced? That’s what UDM charged for the UM game, and it sold out. Students are just $5. The club team charged $6 or $7 a game, if I remember correctly. I expected varsity prices to be slightly higher.
I think it’s good they are charging more than some other sports at UM and that they are playing in the Big House (rather than continuing in Oosterbaan or playing at the soccer stadium). Shows that they have high expectations for lacrosse.
Will be interesting to see how many people show up during March Madness to see UM- Bellarmine. Will be a beautiful day, but Bellarmine isn’t exactly a marquee opponent.
I know a good number of people going. Michigan and MSU both don’t play saturday since they play tonight. Most local high school teams won’t have games yet and if the weather is nice hopefully we get a decent crowd. I expect though that most will go to the game on the 14th if they are only going to one game this year.
