Lax Links: April 4, 2012

It’s been more than a week since the links have made an appearance, so there’s plenty of material to cover. Let’s get right into it.

Division-1

Detroit’s A.J. Levell was the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Titans’ overtime victory against Marist a week ago.

The Titan women took part in Lax-4-Life awareness day on Saturday prior to their victory over Longwood. Postgame interview with coach Laura Maness.

Detroit’s men and women are reaching success with Canadian student-athletes on their teams. Considering the men’s team has Joel Matthews, Shayne Adams, and Jordan Houtby making waves, I think it’s safe to say that our neighbors to the North (or even South, in Detroit) have been kind to UDM.

Senior defenseman Jason McDonald‘s latest player blog for Lacrosse Playground.

No surprise here, UDM is near the top of the nation in caused turnovers. The metrics are on a per-game rather than per-possession basis, so take it with a small grain of salt (Detroit is the fastest team in the country, after all)

Collegiate Club

Davenport has been battle-tested against MCLA-1 squads this season, and their most recent contest playing up resulted in an 11-5 victory over Wisconsin.

Davenport senior (and Lowell alum) Adam Bowers spends his summers working at a fly fishing lodge in Alaska.

Michigan’s women – who won’t have varsity ball until the spring of 2014 – are ranked the No. 4 club team in the country.

High School

Atomic Lacrosse has been putting in work. Game recaps:

Grand Haven 10, Grand Rapids Catholic Central 8. Grand Haven built a 9-3 lead and held of a comeback attempt.

Davison 8, Grand Blanc 5. Kirk McQuillan scored all eight goals for Davison.

East Grand Rapids 18, Portage Central 3. Angle 2.

Grand Rapids Christian 12, Caledonia 6. Will Greeley scored six goals for Christian.

Dexter 18, Howell 4. A balanced offense, with Dexter’s leading scorer notching four goals. Dreadnaught keeper Chris Staton made 17 saves.

Ann Arbor Huron 13, Temperance Bedford 5. Trevor Kuhnlein scored eight goals for the River Rats.

Bay City Western 9, Swartz Creek 3.

Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 10, Ann Arbor Huron 4.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 4, Warren De La Salle 3. Detroit-bound Dylan Swanson was one of the goals scorers for Pioneer.

Clarkston 16, Ypsilanti 6.

Brother Rice 10, Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller 3. Super-mini recap from the Free Press. Ian King, the Moeller player referenced, is a Michigan commitment.

Although he’s no longer suiting up for Rice’s lacrosse team, Mackenzie MacEachern is excelling athletically.

St. Clair and Marysville high schools are growing the game in the Port Huron area with a new combined club team (H/T: The Growth Blog).

Forest Hills Eastern/Northern is trying to make a return trip to the state finals.

In Illinois, lacrosse is on the path to earning official recognition by the state’s high school athletics governing board. We talked about this in the comments of another post a few weeks back, but as we’ve seen with high school lacrosse in Michigan, official recognition can be a blessing and a curse.

Etc.

I’ve scaled back the recruiting talk while there is actual lacrosse happening, but I thought I’d point out that future Michigan goalie Robbie Zonino was a big star for Conestoga (Pa.) in their 7-6 overtime win over Maryland power Boys’ Latin. Video evidence can be seen here.

As always, if you have a story, game report, photo, news tip, cupcake, etc. that you’d like to share, drop me a line via e-mail, twitter, or the comments of any post on this site.
