Brother Rice 11, Detroit Catholic Central 5
BBR dominated their Catholic League rival, en route to locking up the #1 overall seed in the MHSAA Tournament, barring something totally unforeseen happening.
Brother Rice 3, Upper Arlington 11
The Warriors came in runners-up in the Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Coaches’ Association Tournament. The end of the game is on Youtubes, but its credentials as worthwhile are seriously dubious.
Saginaw Heritage 10, Swartz Creek 4
Heritage trailed 3-2 at the half, but turned on the jets after the break to earn the win.
Troy Athens 11, Troy 6
The D-Zone blog was there, and provides a recap and some pictures, along with a video or two.
Flint Powers 7, Notre Dame Prep 4
The article touts that Powers is the only team in the state to beat ND Prep this season, but should probably also mention that they’d only played 4 games at the time.
Forest Hills Central 13, East Grand Rapids 5
In a rematch from the popular film American Pie, the Rangers scored 7 straight in the second quarter to capture an 8-1 halftime lead:
East Grand Rapids coach Adam Vincent said his team didn’t come out to play. “I think those guys played a hell of a lot harder than we did. They certainly deserved to win that game,” said Vincent, whose Pioneers dropped to 8-3. “Their goalie played great and their defense played great.
Go, alma mater, go!
East Lansing 7, Hartland 6 (OT)
The Trojans scored 4 in the fourth to force overtime, and Cam Earhart put in the OT winner.
Ann Arbor Huron 17, Ypislanti 1
But, the biggest standout of the game for Ypsilanti was their goaltender, Forrest Huntley. Huntley proved that he is one of the finest sportsmen in the conference. He faced a genuine barrage from the Huron offense, and absorbed a terrible pounding as he threw his body in front of countless shots. Yet, every time he took a blow he offered his opponent a hearty, “Atta boy.”
I’d be remiss not to mention that Upton’s son Henry put in 9 goals and 2 assists for the River Rats.
Brighton 15, Huron 7
Bill Upton’s articles just aren’t the same when the Rats lose.
Bay City Western 11, Swartz Creek 7
Tough first year for the Dragons, as they’re definitely getting trial by fire.
Dexter 13, Saline 12 (2OT)
Saline led 7-4 at the half, but Dexter mounted a comeback to force OT. The overtime winner came on a broken clear.
Cranbrook Kingswood 7, Flint Powers 4
Dominic Hamper scored 3 for Powers.
Saginaw Heritage 10, Oxford 3
Heritage’s goalie allegedly had 30 saves, but I’m willing to bet that’s a result of some creative scorekeeping more than anything.
Forest Hills Eastern/Northern 13, Notre Dame Prep 9
The RedHawk/Husky things took down ND Prep thanks to a big second quarter. A couple cool photos in the West Michigan Allstar post.
Flint Powers 11, Plymouth 5
Dominic Hamper continued his star turn for Powers with four goals and an assist.
Lapeer West 7, Saginaw Heritage 2
The article (rightfully) focuses on the poor offensive performance by Heritage. The players admit to being off their game due to their prom the previous night.
Bay City Central 5, Grand Blanc 3
Lots of low-scoring games in the Saginaw/Flint/Bay City area. BCC coach Chuck Hewitt chalks this one up to great team defense.
East Lansing 4, Haslett-Williamston 3
The EL Trojans got revenge for an 8-5 loss earlier this season. Cam Earhart had a hat trick for East Lansing.
Mike Birney Signs
Detroit Catholic Central’s Mike Birney made his commitment to UDM official last week. I was impressed by his skillz when I saw the Shamrocks play Forest Hills Central a couple weeks ago.
