The Next Level: May 8, 2012

Our weekly look at Michigan natives’ performances in Division-1 lacrosse. We’re nearing the end: the only remaining teams are Stony Brook (Graham Adams), Johns Hopkins (Andrew Cote), and Yale (Bryan Walker).

Detroit 10, Canisius 12

  • Freshman attack Brandon Beauregard (Notre Dame Prep) – REcorded a goal on two shots (one on goal) and notched an assist.
  • Senior midfielder John Bemben (Hartland) – Caused two turnovers and picked up five ground balls. Also committed one turnover.
  • Freshman midfielder Mike Birney (Detroit Catholic Central) – Picked up one ground ball.
  • Junior midfielder Tyler Corcoran (South Lyon) – Won 10 of 15 faceoffs, picking up nine ground balls, and took one shot.
  • Junior midfielder Brandon Davenport (Grosse Pointe North) – Won three of nine faceoffs, picking up one ground ball, and took one shot.
  • Sophomore attack Scott Drummond (Birmingham Seaholm) – Recorded a goal on five shots (three on goal), and added two assists. Also picked up one ground ball.
  • Junior defenseman John Dwyer (Detroit Catholic Central) – Started, caused one turnover, and picked up one ground ball. Also committed two turnovers.
  • Sophomore midfielder Nick Garippa (Notre Dame Prep) – Lost his only attempted faceoff, but caused one turnover and picked up one ground ball.
  • Freshman defenseman Joe Gifford (Notre Dame Prep) – Played, but id not accrue any statistics.
  • Senior attack Scott Harris (Saline) – Started and scored two goals on three shots (all on goal), while picking up one ground ball. Also committed one turnover.
  • Senior midfielder Brad Janer (Detroit Catholic Central) – Played, but did not accrue any statistics.
  • Sophomore LSM Andrew Khalil (Warren De La Salle) – Caused one turnover and picked up one ground ball.
  • Senior Midfielder Tim Lehto (North Farmington) – Played, but did not accrue any statistics.
  • Junior midfielder Chris Nemes (Detroit Catholic Central) – Played, but did not accrue any statistics.
  • Senior defensman Adam Nolan (Ann Arbor Pioneer) – Started, caused one turnover, and picked up two ground balls. Also committed one penalty for 1:00.
  • Senior midfielder John Nowicki (Warren De La Salle) – Started, took three shots (one on goal) and recorded one assist. Also picked up one ground ball.
  • Senior midfielder Adam Parrotino (Warren De La Salle) – Played, but did not accrue any statistics.

Johns Hopkins 13, Army 6

Michigan 5, North Carolina 19

  • Junior midfielder Zach Dauch (Bloomfield Hills Lahser) – Scored a goal on his only shot. Also committed two turnovers.
  • Freshman defenseman Mack Gembis (Cranbrook) – Caused one turnover and picked up three ground balls. Also committed one turnover.
  • Redshirt senior midfielder Brian Greiner (Grosse Pointe South) – Won 10 of 27 faceoffs, picking up three ground balls. Scored a goal on his only shot and caused one turnover. Also committed one turnover and one penalty for 0:30.
  • Senior defenseman Rob Healy (Notre Dame Prep) – Started, but only made the scoresheet by committing two turnovers.
  • Senior midfielder Brent Kirshner (Ann Arbor Huron) – Played, but did not accrue any statistics.
  • Freshman attack Will Meter (Brother Rice) – Started, recorded one assist, took one shot on goal, and picked up two ground balls. Also committed two turnovers.
  • Freshman midfielder Thomas Orr (Detroit Catholic Central) – Played, but only made the scoresheet by committing one penalty for 1:00.
  • Sophomore defenseman Dakota Sherman (Cranbrook) – Caused one turnover.

Mount St. Mary’s 16, Robert Morris 15

  • Junior midfielder Jon Marsalese (University of Detroit Jesuit) – Won 19 of 28 faceoffs, picking up nine ground balls.
  • Senior defenseman Brendan Rooney (University of Detroit Jesuit) – Started and picked up two ground balls.

Mount St. Mary’s 6, Bryant 12

  • Junior midfielder Jon Marsalese (University of Detroit Jesuit) – Won six of 20 faceoffs, picking up one ground ball.
  • Senior defenseman Brendan Rooney (University of Detroit Jesuit) – Started, caused one turnover, and picked up one ground ball.

Penn State 11, Drexel 13

  • Junior Attack Nick Dolik (Brother Rice) – Scored four goals on six shots. Also committed one turnover and one penalty for 0:30.
  • Junior midfielder Danny Henneghan (Brother Rice) – Started and won 10 of 28 faceoffs, picking up three ground balls.

Stony Brook 9, Hartford 8

  • Senior attack Graham Adams (Brother Rice) – Recorded one assist.

Stony Brook 14, Albany 8

  • Senior attack Graham Adams (Brother Rice) – Scored a goal on his only shot.

Villanova 6, Syracuse 15

  • Senior midfielder Joe Payne (Brother Rice) – Played, but did not accrue any statistics.

Yale 14, Cornell 10

  • Junior midfielder Bryan Walker (Brother Rice) – Picked up one ground ball.

    I watched Graham Adams on ESPNU on Sunday and he was running 2nd line midfield, not attack. It looked like he was the top dodger on that line as he dodged twice the first time he got on the field and the announcers called his name out more than a couple times in the first quarter.

    In D2, Only 4 teams advance to the semi’s and then the finals, Last year Mercyhurst won it all, a big reason for the Laker’s success is all world D-Pole, Peter Plaskey, (Brother Rice) he is a force on the lax field. He’s got gonzo stats again this season and leading the way to a possible repeat… He just needs to try to cut down on his penalites, but it’s the price you pay when you play so aggressively. Good luck to Pete and the Lakers on another D2 Crown!
