Lax Links Catchup

Links may be a bit on the disorganized side, because I’m trying to catch up on a loooot of stuff that I didn’t get to in the past couple weeks. As always, e-mail or tweet news tips, articles, etc.

Battle for Michigan

Official site recaps from the Detroit and Michigan ends.

The Oakland Press covers the game. Michigan-centric game highlights.

Lacrosse Magazine talks about the tough road ahead for Michigan over the remainder of the season.

Former Michigan player Pat Stansik is blowing up in the world of online comedy (and/or lacrosse) videos. First, his “Bros v. Hipsters” went viral, then “I love you, Denard” did the same. He also has a highlights and interviews package from the UDM-UM game. I keep expecting him to ask the players if they know who Fielding Yost is, or what Minnesota’s mascot is.

Photos from the game.

Postgame video from Alex Maini and Tim Lehto. Postgame video from UDM coach Matt Holtz:

Davenport

The Spartans escaped with a double OT win.

The Panthers are making a move to MCLA Division-1 next season. However, they’ll be doing it without coach Bob Clarkson, who is retiring at the conclusion of the 2012 season.

Offensive and midfield previews for Davenport, which opens the year No. 1 in MCLA-2.

The Panthers opened the season with a 13-12 double OT loss to Michigan State. I was there, so you get one magnificent picture from the action (at right).

Gear? Gear.

Royal Oak High School 2012 swag.

If you’re interested in Michigan State’s 2012 gear, Lacrosse Playground has you covered.

2012 CMU shooting shirts.

The MCLA has launched an awareness campaign over youtube. That vaguely fits into this section.

Recruiting

Country Day goalie Ahmed Iftikhar will play his college ball in the Ivy League at the Universiy of Pennsylvania.

Rockford junior attack Erika Neuman will play at Hofstra.

Michigan-bound Brendan Gaughan is on ESPNHS’s “starting team” for the West Coast. The Carlsbad (Calif.) La Costa Canyon attack is one of Michigan’s top-rated recruits in the 2012 signing class.

The Michigan women are on a recruiting roll, picking up Niskayuna (N.Y.) junior Kelly Schlansker.

San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) St. Margaret’s junior attack Regan Anderson has also committed to Michigan’s women’s team.

Etc.

The Michigan women’s team camp has been scheduled.

Detroit has been tabbed as the MAAC favorite. Getting their first win of the year last weekend probably helped get confidence back up in terms of living up to that expectation.

Photos from the Michigan/Denison scrimmage.

Lacrosse has been approved as a varsity sport at Spring Lake High School, and although the article doesn’t make it clear, I believe that goes into effect this spring. Doug Sharp is a lacrosse Johnny Appleseed in West Michigan having previously started programs at Forest Hills (back when it was a combined FHC/FHN team and Eastern wasn’t even a school) and Caledonia.

Tickets are on sale for Michigan’s inaugural season. At 25 bucks for three games or $10 a pop, it’s a pretty steep investment. Interesting pricing strategy. The Battle at the Big House game, however, will be free.

Coolphoto, are there any other division 1 head coaches that were mcla head coaches

  2. AndyD says:

I know there are D1 coaches, and former D1 coaches, who coached club first. Fekete at Quinnipiac and Carl Runk (used to be at Towson) both coached college club. Lots of assistant coaches have come from club to D1 or gone from D1 to club. Any other head coaches?
