High School Roundup: May 15, 2012

Walled Lake Central 15, Hartland 8.

Stingy defense by Walled Lake Central kept a very good Hartland team in check the whole game. Once again, faceoff play by Ben Gjokaj played a big part in the victory as he dominated the draws.

Winning faceoffs is an excellent way to win lacrosse games. It’s science.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 6, Sylvania Southview (Ohio) 3. Jeff Duart-Digon had ten saves for Pioneer.

Dexter 21, Ypsilanti 6. It’s definitely necessary for Mike Spuller to get nine goals and five assists. Certainly no circumstance to play some depth guys.

Ann Arbor Skyline 20, Temperance Bedford 3. Skyline led 7-1 after one quarter and 13-2 after two.

Portage Central 5, Battle Creek Pennfield 4 (OT). Drama:

Portage Central trailed for most of regulation, but came back to tie the game in the fourth quarter and force overtime.

In overtime, Aaron Kosobucki netted the game-winning goal from a fast break assist from Matt Schuen.

Nice win for Portage Central.

Flint Powers 16, Davison 3. A 12-goal outburst during the second and third periods really tied the room together.

Lapeer West 8, Bay City Central 0. Shutout city.

Grand Haven 11, Grand Rapids Christian 9. Three goals apiece for Grand Haven’s Trevor MacNamara and Cole Curtiss.

Ann Arbor Greenhills 12, Belleville 8. John Lazarsfeld had five goals for Greenhills.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 14, Troy Athens 2.

Forest Hills Eastern/Northern 13, Rockford 12. This was the conclusion of a game a couple weeks ago that was suspended due to lightning.

Grand Blanc 8, Davison 4. Grand Blanc had a 7-1 lead in the third before the score was cleaned up a little bit.

Dexter 19, Chelsea 8. Josh Galbreath had 16 saves for Chelsea, so that means 35 shots on goal for Dexter. Dreadnaught goalies made four total saves, which means 12 shots on goal for Chelsea.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 8, Ann Arbor Huron 2.

“This is probably the strongest Pioneer team I’ve seen. We had a great victory over (Detroit) Catholic Central (No. 6 in the rankings), who is a great program,” [Pioneer coach James] Corey said. “I think they’re hungry, because I don’t know that we’re in the top programs yet.

Undefeated Pioneer isn’t exactly blowing people out (Huron has been pretty awful this year), but they’ve gotten the job done all 15 times they’ve hit the field to stay undefeated.

Midland Dow 14, Bloomfield Hills United 7.

Walled Lake Central 12, Lapeer West 9.

Two brother Rice wins. Your notebook-style update doesn’t work out very well when it’s obvious that you’ve published in between two of the games.

Clarkston 16, Lake Orion 2. Clarkston has won the OAA Red, and smacked the OAA White-leading Dragons.

Holt 13, Okemos 4. Holt won the CAAC and posted photo evidence on the Twitter machine.

Forest Hills Eastern/Northern 15, Mattawan 4. Bobby Pelton had six goals and six assists for FHE/N in a Dexter-like performance.

Saline 21, Chelsea 4.

Saline’s Colin Cederna and Tom Hickey each scored four times and added four assists to lead the team. Teammate Nick Karapas added four goals.

Strong day for Saline.

Oxford 10, Swartz Creek 9. The winning goal came with just 11 seconds left on the clock.

Grand Rapids Catholic Central 14, Grand Rapids Christian 13.

Grand Rapids Christian went into the fourth quarter of the third place game in the OK D2 Tournament, down by six points.

Despite a furious comeback behind five goals apiece from Ryan Betts and DJ VanderBaan, the Eagles fell one point short.

That’s a hell of a comeback, even if it wasn’t completed. Also, they’re called “goals” not “points.”

Zeeland 12, Caledonia 11.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 11, Dexter 5. What? You mean Dexter’s top attackman didn’t have 11 goals and eight assists?

Tecumseh 10, Ann Arbor Skyline 5.

    Tim,
Dexter doesn’t have any depth. They only have 16 or 17 people on the roster.
