Don’t forget to follow on Twitter @GreatLaxState if you want to get some of these links a little quicker than the roundup posts.
- Want to be a Wolverine? Come out this Sunday, as the team is holding a student-body tryout at 3PM in Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. Bring your own equipment and proof of a recent physical. For those looking to spin this as a “they don’t have any talent” move (you know who you are), fear not, as this is standard protocol for just about every varsity sport at Michigan.
- Michigan coach John Paul sits down for an interview with Lacrosse Magazine. He plans to be the Wolverines’ coach for at least 10 years.
- ESPN Rise is much higher on Michigan’s recruiting class than I thought they’d be. Two future Wolverine LSMs make the top 25 list at that position. For more on Paxton Moore and Charlie Keady, check out their Hello posts.
- Laxpower is showing another 2012 Detroit commitment. Bethpage (N.Y.) defender Paul Bitetti has apparently committed to the Titans.
- Lacrosse All-Stars takes a (fairly shallow, to be honest) look at Michigan State’s viability as a candidate for Division-1 lacrosse in the future.
- Speaking of the Spartans, they had the first informational meeting for the 2012 edition of their MCLA squad last night.
- After yesterday’s big news about a pair of new D-3 programs in the state, intrepid commenter Clark Bell pointed out that Olivet College is mentioned in the MIAA portion of the release(s) as another addition, meaning the count is actually three new programs. Lacrosse Magazine’s Jac Coyne ruminates on the insane year of growth at the NCAA level in the state.
- This is a couple weeks old by now, but US Lacrosse has named its coach, assistant coach, and man of the year for each region. Michigan’s winners were Rob Ambrose (Brother Rice), Nate Maus (Warren De La Salle), and Tony Quinn (Forest Hills Central), respectively.
- How about a bit of girls’ recruiting news? East Grand Rapids standout middie Lauren Hooker will attend Marquette.
One non-link: I reached out to the Athletic Department spokesperson for Michigan, and he said that the Wolverines’ inaugural schedule (including fall ball dates) should be available in the coming days. As always, if you see anything that I should link, you can reach me via e-mail, or now via Twitter.
…and this is without Brother Rice’s Chris Walker making the LSM list. Pretty impressive that UM has this many highly rated players, from great programs like Haverford, in the first class considering how late they started. Good sign for the future.
Is Rizzo (#8 from Hewlett going to UNC) related to the Rizzo who played for UM a couple of years ago? I think he went to Hewlett too. Brothers? Cousins?
Walker considers himself a close D and is expected to play there in college, so that may play a part in it (though he wasn’t on the ESPN list at that position, either).
As for your question on Rizzo, I’m not sure.
