Let’s hop right in to the links.
MCLA
Were you curious if Davenport’s players received rings for winning the MCLA Championship this spring? Wonder no more:
Lookin’ sharp.
Michigan State’s MCLA squad knocked off Western Michigan and Albion in fall ball scrimmages over the weekend.
Division-1
Michigan isn’t the only D-1 program in the state playing a little fall ball. The Detroit Titans held their alumni scrimmage over the weekend, with the White team taking a 6-3 victory over the Red. The Titans will be back in action on October 22nd against Denison.
Some fall scrimmages will test experimental new rules, including a shot clock. The introduction of a shot clock is something I’m truly dreading, but I see it as inevitable due to the slowdown of play in recent seasons.
Philly Lacrosse drops a little bit of ink on Michigan sophomore Jeff Chu, mostly from the official UM press release about Sunday’s scrimmages.
Lacrosse Magazine’s Corey McLaughlin posted the third article from his trip to Ann Arbor, and it’s something of a doozy:
“We’re just at the early stages of figuring out what’s possible,” Paul said, “but the plan right now is to build two separate competition facilities for lacrosse only, one indoor and one outdoor.”
“The vision for the outdoor is an improved version of what everybody else has been building the last few years, like Notre Dame’s. The indoor is what we’re really excited about. The vision right now is to build a dedicated lacrosse-only indoor stadium. However many seats we end up with, whether that be 4,000 or 10,000. We don’t know how much space and cost. But that’s the vision. The architects right now have all the parameters that we want. They’ve asked us for what’s your dream facility and now they’re figuring out how to fit all the pieces out there.”
That could be quite impressive indeed. If it comes to fruition, you have to give David Brandon credit: he’s willing to spend what it takes to win. You can find the first two stories from McLaughlin’s trip linked here.
Recruiting
PhillyLacrosse.com covers the commitment of 2013 Conestoga goalie Robbie Zonino to Michigan.
Michigan has picked up another 2013 recruit, attack Ian King from Cincinnati St. Xavier. He has the most impressive “other schools considering” list of any recruit to pick Michigan thus far:
The junior also considered Maryland, Georgetown, Bucknell, Johns Hopkins, Brown and Pennsylvania.
Movin’ on up. Profile post forthcoming when I get all caught up on those.
ESPN Rise has released their Top-100 list of senior recruits, with three players of interest. Michigan-bound faceoff specialist Brad Lott is at #17 correction – #15, uncommitted Country Day goalie Ahmed Iftikhar ranks #20, and Michigan-bound attack Brendan Gaughan comes in 27th in the country.
