GVSU
Grand Valley State recruiting All-Americans:
Of course, “All-Americans” is often to be taken with a grain of salt in non-hotbed lacrosse areas, but it is still interesting to see the talent that an MCLA-2 squad is bringing in.

GVSU smoked Central Michigan over the weekend.

GVSU was only up 3-1 after the 1st and both teams were looking good, then GVSU got a couple quick ones at the start of the second. Central’s offense couldn’t possess the ball well all game and most of the game was played on defense for Central. They just buckled mid way through second and never recovered.
GVSU looked crisp on offense and pressured well on defense to help keep the ball out of CMU’s sticks. CMU had a couple of nice goals, they were just making far too many mental mistakes and were just getting outworked.
Overall, GVSU looked good and should only improve. CMU has potential to do pretty good, it seems they just haven’t clicked and meshed together yet.
How much is Central replacing from last year’s team? Were they at full strength?
Obviously, GVSU and Central are competing for different things (national championship v. national respect), and at different levels.
Central is replacing quite a bit on offense. They lost 2/3 of their top offensive players in All-CCLA attackmen Justin Schaufler and 1st team All-CCLA midfielder Nick Diegel (recruited and transferred to NCAA D1 Ohio State).
They also lost some solid mid fielders in 4 year veterans Brad Dickerson & Cam Aubry.
So they have quite a bit to replace, but have some younger talent to do it.
On Defense they return all their starters and have a very solid freshman goalie in Ryan Mcgee out of Traverse City.
They were at mostly full strength that Sunday. They are still just trying to find some confidence with their younger offense, and team as a whole, as well as mesh as a team.
Once they get it though they will be a solid team. Interested to see how they progress going into spring.
