MCLA
Check out the reversibles Aquinas’s alumni rocked recently for a recent fall ball scrimmage with the team. Houndstooth galore. More photos at Lax Playground.
Grand Valley State went 2-2 at the Lakefront Classic in Wisconsin over the weekend, beating MCLA-1 squad Wisconsin 12-7, losing in OT to MCLA-1 Illinois 10-11, and beating MCLA-2 St. Thomas 11-10, while taking an 8-11 loss to host Carthage, an NCAA D-3 squad. There is video from the Cathage perspective, but be forewarned that at times it’s more an avant garde video essay than a highlight reel (HT: 412 Lax).
Division-1
Detroit has a pair of scrimmages this weekend, expect previews in the next couple days.
Terry Foy of Inside Lacrosse checks in with Michigan’s fall ball practices.
There’s very little delusion among the Michigan staff — they’re aware of the athletic deficiencies and the talent gap between the UM roster and most of their opponents. And with the main portion of fall practice complete, the staff turns its attention to individual sessions and captain’s practices before prepping in earnest for their inaugural game in early February. Those two facts mean there’s a lot of work to be done, so efficiency and quality will be an emphasis moving forward.

In westward expansion news, it seems like USC may be in the early stages of putting in a lacrosse field on campus. The Trojans are adding a women’s team this spring, and maybe this is a sign (it’s probably not, but MAYBE) that a men’s team is possible in the not-so-distant future as well.
All Collegiate
Lacrosse Magazine’s Jac Coyne proposes an alternative method of speeding the pace of play at the collegiate level without adding a shot clock. I’m pretty firmly anti-shot clock, so any and all ideas – weird though they may seem, this one included – are welcomed.
Camps, Clinics, Etc.
Looking to improve your shooting? Scorpion Lacrosse is running a shooting clinic this Saturday at the Auburn Hills Golf Center. Visit the site for more information.
The Mid-American Lacrosse Combine and Showcase goes down on November 18-19 at Ultimate Soccer in Pontiac. It looks like a great opportunity for high schoolers interested in the next level to show their stuff in front of a number of college coaches. Lacrosse All-Stars (in a not-so-thinly-veiled advertisement) thinks such combines are the next evolution of lacrosse recruiting. Some are not so pleased with this development.
Interested coaches, don’t forget to take a look at the recap of Michigan’s first lacrosse coaching clinic, and sign up for later sessions if you’re interested (information aquí).
