3. Ahmed Iftikhar, Detroit Country Day (Beverly Hills, Mich.), Johns Hopkins
Johns Hopkins is getting a nice goaltender next year. Iftikhar has a great game — he does great saving the high to low shots and can clear well. He was a 2011 Warrior 40 selection.
No sign of Detroit-bound Connor Flynn (Rockford) or Michigan-bound Gerald Logan (Hotchkiss, CT). The next position groups released will go as follows:
- Aug. 31 – Defense
- Sep. 7 – LSM
- Sep. 14 – Midfield
- Sep. 21 – Faceoff
- Sep. 28 – Attack
Once those lists are released, the top 50 seniors and top 25 juniors will roll out over the next two weeks. Will we see any players headed to Michigan or Detroit on these lists? Well, since Flynn is Detroit’s only commit at this point, they won’t appear on the next sets. However, there are a couple future Wolverines that may make the lists:
MD A Evan Glaser. When I talked with Terry Foy, he said that was the Michigan commit that people were most impressed with. Is he in the top 25 in the country? That remains to be seen.
TX A Will Perkins. Same as above, Terry Goy mentioned that people outside Michigan’s program were most impressed with him. He’s got the size and physical ability to be an elite athlete as a lacrosse player. Does all that add up to being an elite lacrosse player as an athlete?
KY FO Brad Lott. Specialists have a better chance to make it into the rankings, and Lott is a very good faceoff man. He’s had success at one of the top lacrosse schools in Kentucky – few and far between though they may be – and that will help with exposure.
One guy we won’t see, even though I think he’s one of the best in Michigan’s class? ON M Kyle Jackson, because as far as I can tell, ESPN Rise doesn’t include Canadian schools – which is fair. I got really excited reading about Jackson’s game as I was writing the profile post, so stay tuned for it later today.
