Yes yes, I’m beating this topic to death, but it’s on of the biggest things going on in the world of lacrosse (off the field, at least), much less for the state of Michigan. Inside Lacrosse spoke with the Ohio State and Penn State coaches to get their reactions to the pending announcement (which, I will note, is not actually news yet).
Most of their stuff is standard “we are excited for the Big Ten, the midwest,” etc. HOWEVA, there was one particularly interesting quote from Nick Myers of Ohio State:
“We’ve been proactive in working with Michigan in terms of making it work on the [2012] schedule. … We’re looking forward to playing Michigan and having that Big Ten rivalry.”
I’d be curious to see what channels are being used for these discussions (also how much liberty is being taken with that insertion by the author). Is it informal coach-to-coach? Would be much more revealing if it were AD-to-AD. Time will tell.
Penn State’s Jeff Tambroni has an interesting take himself:
“And it may be the beginning of Big Ten lacrosse conference, like we saw recently in hockey. Maybe this is the spark that’ll lead other teams. It’s a great day for college lacrosse in every regard. We’re excited. Hopefully this causes other Big Ten schools to wake up and add lacrosse.”
That would indeed be neat. I have a post in the works for the occasiona when Michigan makes an official announcement.
Ready when you are, David Brandon.
