Thanks to e-mailer Ted for bringing this to my attention. According to ESPN Rise, Michigan has picked up 2012 attackman Will Perkins, from St. Mark’s in Dallas, Texas:
Perkins, a 2012 graduate, plays attack for the Lions’ and was the captain this past season when they finished 19-2 and No. 32 in the POWERADE FAB 50.
The future Wolverine scored 45 goals and added 16 assists last season and was the leading scorer during the Brine King of Spring tournament in March.
He’s the fifth known commitment for the 2012 class, and all the commits hail from different states (Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Michigan, and now Texas). I’ll give Perkins the full Hello post treatment when I get caught up on the other two commits yet to be profiled.
Other rumored UM commits for 2012 that I’ve heard…
Chase Brown from Severn. Kyle Jackson from Hill Academy. Charlie Keady from Fairfield Prep.
Any others anyone has heard? No goalies yet that I know of.
Hadn’t heard either of those names, but I’ll definitely look into them. I’m guessing that they might hold off on a 2012 goalie since they have a likely 4-year starter in the 2011 class (Emil Weiss) with another couple guys coming in (Brother Rice’s goalie is coming to Michigan and Ambrose mentioned in an interview a while back that he might play lacrosse, and a goalie from Cali recently popped up on LaxPower), and probably a guy or two from the current roster who can play the position.
It might be better for roster balance to take at least one year off from recruiting a goalie, though I haven’t really look into how other teams handle it.
